The xRhythms track 'Alright (ft Eric Heron)' by Gerry Skrillz is a powerful piece of hip-hop. It’s about tapping into a state of mind that allows us to rise above our negative surroundings.
Said San Deigo-based emcee Skrillz, “It is a journey through the eyes of a Latino artist determined to push through adversity in a country that struggles to embrace its own diversity.”
Gerry wrote the song to empower minorities to overcome the difficult circumstances that they may face in an unjust society.
“Specifically, ‘Latino immigrants’ finding their identity among a firestorm of racial attacks stemming from the issue of immigration in American politics. I want my music to give my people hope and remind them that our success and happiness is not dependent on the acceptance of a society struggling to understand itself.”
A well-respected figure in America’s crowded Christian hip-hop underground.
Gerry Skrillz has been busy recording his raps since his first album ‘Born Again Hooligan’ in 2013. Since then, albums like ‘No Apologies’ in 2015 and a flurry of singles, with guest appearances from the likes of Joey Jewish and Drew Weeks, have kept him a well-respected figure in America’s crowded Christian hip-hop underground.
Though he’s never hit the bigtime like rappers NF and Lecrae, he has plenty to share and the skill to share it.
Bold proclaimers of truth, like Gerry Skrillz, are much needed.
In today's American society that's struggling to come to terms with the “immigrant problem,” bold proclaimers of truth, like Gerry Skrillz, are much needed.
