GRAMMY nominated singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes released the track "Monster" in November last year in collaboration with fellow Canadian Justin Bieber. The track is on our playlist.
The track in question pertains to the artists discussing how they were put on pedestals at a young age and the consequences that messing up in the public eye can have on such people, turning them into the monsters.
The biggest question this song asks if people put them up on that level and they mess up, is it their fault, “What if I, what if I trip? / What if I, what if I fall? / Then am I the Monster?”
Mendes has recently discussed a spiritual encounter.
Mendes has recently discussed a spiritual encounter he had whilst listening to music. On The Man Enough Podcast he brings up the fact that he was listening to a track by the group Maverick City Music and he was moved to tears whilst listening to their music. “I’m sitting there watching this Youtube video and they’re singing about Jesus and I just start crying, I’m crying my eyes out” he says. “You know when you’re crying and this is like something is leaving me? This is like that type of cry.”
He continues on to explain how his thought process about faith and Christianity was changed because of this moment. “How is (it) that something my whole life I’ve grown up to believe is fanatic … and not the truth feel like home because of this song?”
