Pop singer and actress Selena Gomez shared her story of faith at a huge church conference in Los Angeles called Hillsong. This emotional speech came in the form of a letter to her younger self telling her what will happen in the future.
She has had her fair share of hardships.
Selena has had her fair share of hardships, including the winter of 2014 when she checked into rehab to have chemotherapy in response to being diagnosed with Lupus, with the public eye firmly on her.
“You will fight shame and you will fight guilt” she says, “it will take you years to learn that your identity is rooted in something so much deeper than the decisions you have made.” At this point she states how she found freedom in this ‘new identity’.
She found Jesus and he became real to her.
Through this revelation Selena talks about how this identity as a child of God will bring peace despite years of searching for such a thing. She pinpoints her 23rd birthday as the time she found Jesus and he became real to her, finding affirmation through this revelation that she hadn’t felt before.
“You are enough because you are a child of God that has been pursued from the very beginning” she affirmed to the sound of applause. “Selena you don’t have to try so hard. You can rest. You can have faith in a future that is secure.”
