1DayLA has completed its latest run last month. Running from the 18th to the 24th July, this project gathered 20,000 volunteers to organise and support free medical clinics, back-to-school events and city beautification projects, amongst other things.
At the end of said week, there was a celebration at Inglewood’s SoFi Stadium which consisted of positive messages and musical entertainment. The musical acts included xRhythms favourites Tori Kelly and Justin Bieber, with Bieber headlining the night.
This already seems like a great event right? Especially with some huge names. But that wasn’t the whole of it. Whilst the event wasn’t exclusively a religious event, the whole concept of the event is supported by faith-based values regarding community and helping each other. During the back half of Bieber’s set, pastor Judah Smith appeared and delivered a talk on faith, followed by GRAMMY winner and Christian artist Kari Jobe with a song known as “The Blessing” written by Jobe and her husband, made famous by Elevation Worship.
So why am I writing about this event in California, over five thousand miles away? Not just because of the artists associated with the final concert, that’s only a small part of it.
When we come together we can do amazing things.
It’s because when we come together we can do amazing things. As we slowly emerge from the COVID pandemic we must not forget how much good can come of people coming together and working together for the betterment of everyone.
