Success
Every day it seems like we have something to plan and prepare for, whether that be something at school, college, work, or getting together with friends and family. There are lots of things that we have to be ready for.
For me one of these things is fairly massive, completely life-changing and I’m definitely not ready for it yet.
In just over six weeks I will be having a baby. Things are starting to feel very real, very fast. There is so much that I feel I still have to do, so much that needs to be bought and prepared, ready for this little person to enter my life. It is crazy to think that by the end of the school holidays I will have responsibility for a small human being. Loving them, feeding them, and clothing them. Am I ready for this yet? I don’t know.
In all the excitement of painting the nursery and buying cute clothes for my little girl, some of the more practical things can feel like massive chores on a never ending to do list. Will me and my husband get everything ready in time?
Whether its having a baby, getting married, doing exams, or moving out of your folks place for the first time, all these things can seem overwhelming tasks to get done. But I want to pass on some of the things I’ve learnt whilst going through some of these experiences.
We can forget to step back and see all that we have achieved.
In all of the busyness and in all of the stress that preparation can bring, constantly double checking to make sure everything is finished, we can forget to breathe. We can forget to step back and see all that we have achieved.
I remember during my GCSE exams that I was so overwhelmed with exam timetables and late night revising that I didn’t notice all I was achieving, or recognise that I was accomplishing so much.
In the stress of my first paid job I forgot to notice how well I had done to get that job and how I was starting to earn myself some money.
When I was at college I let all of my coursework weigh heavy on my shoulders and it wasn’t until it was all over that I realised how well I had actually done during my time on my course.
I wonder if I had just taken the time to assess where I was at and where I was going, would I have found it all a lot less stressful?
I wonder if I had just taken the time to assess where I was at and where I was going, would I have found it all a lot less stressful?
When I think back over the last few years, I have accomplished so much, but until I took myself out of the stress, I didn’t recognise it.
I passed my GCSE exams; I completed collage with the highest grade possible. I got myself a job and moved cities. I got married, bought a house and now I’m starting my own family. That is a lot of things I’ve checked off my life to do list.
No matter where you find yourself and no matter how much work seems to be in front of you in whatever you're facing, step back, breathe and acknowledge what you have achieved. Trust me it makes it all so worthwhile!
