There’s nothing like exploring a new city’s quirky backstreets, differing nightlife and historic architecture and landmarks.
From being dominated by canals, to the city of lights and concrete jungles, here are some great city breaks.
Amsterdam, the Netherlands
Renowned for its thousands of bikes, elaborate canal system, narrow buildings and artistic heritage, Amsterdam is a must-see.
With the airport leading straight to a train station that takes you directly to central Amsterdam, and regular metro routes, it is easy to navigate around with most places accessible by walking.
Among the sights are:
- The infamous hiding spot of Anne Frank and her family during WWII.
- A multitude of museums including the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh museum.
- Rembrandt’s house.
- Dam Square.
London, United Kingdom
England’s capital has history stretching back to Roman times, but is very much 21st century.
Home to the Queen and much of the Royal family, London is very much a sight-seeing destination.
Among these sites are:
- Houses of Parliament, Downing Street and Big Ben.
- The London Eye to get a panoramic view of the 1,572 km² city.
- Buckingham Palace.
- Sky Gardens for a view of the city.
New York, United States
The concrete jungle that is New York, is full of life at every turn and corner.
From the top of the Rock to New York’s lively subway, there is something to explore every day.
Here you will find:
- The Statue of Liberty.
- The Empire State Building.
- The top of the Rockefeller Centre to get a great view of Central Park and to capture the Empire State Building from a great height.
- Grand Central Station.
- A Broadway show.
- Times Square, particularly at night.
- Fun restaurants such as the Hard Rock Café and Bubba Gump for fans of ‘Forrest Gump’.
- And, of course, Central Park.
