Last week I went to the cinema to watch the new remake of 'Lion King', with the sole expectation of having a good time and just reliving my childhood memories.
Whilst I was watching the film, it seemed that there was a hidden message within the storyline. It was more than just lions and their fight to leadership.
It represents life’s journey.
The storyline appeared to be deeper than that. It represents life’s journey and the obstacles we face in our stride towards fulfilling our purpose.
I learnt two important things whilst watching the film:
1. NO MATTER HOW FAR WE STRAY, GOD IS ALWAYS THERE
When Simba ran away from home after the death of the King (his father), he thought his life was over and he lived in denial of who he was.
But no matter how far he travelled, there was always someone looking out for him, from Nala to Pumbaa, he always had protection and love.
There is never a dead end when it comes to Gods love.
God is our Nala and Pumbaa. No matter how hard life gets, no matter how low our downfalls are, there is never a dead end when it comes to God's love.
We may forget him, but he will never forget about us. That’s the beauty about having a relationship with God, he will always welcome us back with open arms.
2. OUR HARD TIMES ARE NOT PERMANENT FIXTURES
Whenever we reach a stage in life where things aren’t going our way, our initial reaction is to give up and ‘throw away the towel’ as some may say.
But the tricky times we face are lessons to advance us to the next stage of life.
In some ways, we are all like Simba, initially excited to fulfil our purpose, but later, give up or get disheartened when life gets tough.
Press on towards the goal.
But no matter how hard life gets, the Bible advises us to 'press on towards the goal' (Philippians 3:14).
This simply means that we shouldn’t give up, but we should trust that God has a plan for us.
Jeremiah 29:11 also says, '“For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”'
God has a plan for you.
I just want to encourage anyone who is going through a tough time, that God has a plan for you and that he is with you every step of the way.
Even when you feel like he is not there, he is always there.
When Simba started to believe he was loved and belonged, his life started to change.
All we’ve got to do is trust God, our perfect friend and helpmate, and he will come through.
