It sometimes feels like Harry and Meghan have been big news forever, and their fleeing of the Royal Family has left viewers divided. The fear of leaving one lifestyle to join another is a big step, and it’s sometimes hard to believe that it’s possible to just set up a whole other life somewhere new.

Luckily, Harry and Megan had the support of someone who offered to give them stability whilst they dealt with the lack of royal protection that they once had. He offered them housing for three months and gave them the security that they needed. That person is an actor, director and comedian who, despite his own very difficult childhood, works hard to help and support others so they can succeed and live happily. That person, is Tyler Perry.

Tyler Perry was born in New Orleans as Emmitt Perry Jr., before changing his name to Tyler when he was 16. Perry’s father used violence as a form of discipline, and Perry wanted to distance himself from his father as much as possible.

He overcame them with his strong belief in God.

Aside from his father’s violence, Perry was also taken advantage of a lot as a child and this vulnerability lead him to seek serenity within writing. He used his writing to write letters to himself, which became the basis for his musical ‘I Know I’ve Been Changed’. The play focuses on difficult issues that Perry dealt with and how he overcame them with his strong belief in God.

Perry is a Christian and uses themes in his work to reflect Black Church Culture. Black Christians are often underrepresented in media, so Tyler Perry uses his talents and name to write about the social and theological side of the Christianity that he has grown up with.

Perry believes that people who believe in God shouldn’t hide this from their filmmaking, and there is no shame in having a character say that they are religious or believe in God, because they represent real people. Family Theatre Productions quote Perry in saying, "I know had I not been a person of faith, I couldn't be here in this place, and I wouldn't be walking the path that I'm on now. And I think the greater good of the path I'm on now is to teach people to learn to forgive and move on, in a way that's done through the healing power of humour."

Humour can be found in everything.

Perry tells us here that humour can be found in everything, and it is very inspiring that he uses humour to cheer the lives of others.

He is notorious for his charity work and is such as inspiration because he sees the good in others and goes out of his way to help others despite being a victim to the cruelty of others as a child. He has paid for other people’s shopping, sent minority children who weren’t allowed in a school swimming club to Disneyland, and has bought hope to millions to feel underrepresented and vulnerable.

We can all learn a lot from Tyler Perry’s selfless actions.

We can all learn a lot from Tyler Perry’s selfless actions. It is very difficult to trust again after being vulnerable, but to trust and to forgive can enrich our lives and the lives of others.
