'Gilmore Girls' was one of the first TV shows I used to switch on when I got home from school.

Sitting through repeats of the programme has never been a problem for me, so my eyes boggled at the TV screen when I saw all seven seasons had been uploaded. And I couldn't have been more excited to see this much loved series brought back for one final season.

If you’ve never watched any of the series before, then I encourage you to do so.

From the start Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel) are the coffee loving mother daughter duo who live in Stars Hollow. They somehow manage to talk themselves in and out of some of the most awkward yet funny situations.

A Year in the Life feels like a chance to say goodbye to all of the much loved characters.

'Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life' is a four episode relaunch from the end of the last series and feels like a chance to say goodbye to all of the much loved characters.

This is the first time we have had any sort of insight into the Gilmore’s life since the show finished a decade earlier. A lot of things left up in the air are answered in this series, like what happens to Luke? Who is still living in Stars Hollow? And what are dinners like at Emily Gilmore’s after the death of Richard?

There is also a return for Lorelei’s best friend, Sookie (Melissa McCarthy), Rory’s first boyfriend, Dean (Jared Padalecki), and the ever elaborate Michel (Yanic Truesdale). Seeing these old faces again is like putting on a well-loved comfy jumper and makes you feel like you’re home with the family. However I wish Sookie was in it for longer than five minutes, (I’m not joking, it’s really not long!), but hey now Melissa McCarthy has made a big name for herself in Hollywood, we should be grateful to see her at all.

I have always loved the dry humour and amusing anecdotes in this TV series and once again it doesn’t disappoint.

For true fans of the original series, there are a few story-lines which are surprising as they are out of Gilmore character. For example, how Rory despite being insanely clever and always seeming to have a plan in life, doesn’t have this at all now, and is quite lost in purpose and direction. I felt quite disappointed by this, as Rory was a character who was always really inspiring for me in her ‘can do' attitude to life. This aside there’s still lots of great twists, like Lorelei going to do ‘Wild’ (watch it and you’ll understand).

It continues to be easy to watch and innocent in nature.

It continues to be easy to watch and innocent in nature. I would be amazed if there’s anything that comes out of a Gilmore mouth that could offend you.

The rumour mill has started to churn again that there could be a follow on season to 'A Year in the Life', which would be great to see after the cliff-hanger finish. However, as I said, if some of our most-loved characters are not really in it, the re-invention might not be for me.

Head to Netflix now in the UK to watch the TV series.
