When I was in primary school I had massive dreams about changing the world.
At that time the world felt like something I could touch. I knew deep down that nothing was impossible for me.
I look back now and I wish I could go back to my younger self. I had a drive and passion to create change. I didn’t know how I wanted to create it, all I knew was that I needed to help humanity somehow.
Do you have a dream that keeps you awake at night and you wonder how you are going to achieve it?
I have read about YouTubers who started posting videos and at first they had one view, and then one view became a million views.
They believed in themselves enough to put themselves out there.
The point isn’t the views, it’s the fact that they believed in themselves enough to put themselves out there, because they believed they had something that could help others.
Maybe your dream isn’t to become the next star, maybe your dream is to be the best parent one day for your children because you never experienced that, or it’s to be the best entrepreneur in your field.
Whatever your dream is don’t stop fighting to attain it.
Whatever your dream is don’t stop fighting to attain it.
Let me tell you a bit about my childhood and how I strived to be in the career I am in today.
I was told not to apply for medicine by my principal in high school. He used to ask me why I was wasting money. Why I don’t apply for a course that’s more attainable and realistic.
The problem he had was that no-one had ever studied medicine since the inception of that school. He was uncomfortable with my dream.
That’s the thing about dreams, sometimes there will be voices that will try to silence the flame within you. But don’t stop pursuing what lies deep inside.
Fast forward to applying into university. I received my acceptance letter towards the end of the year. You can imagine by then I was thinking I should’ve listened and applied into something else, but I kept the faith and I kept professing the truth that lived inside of me, "I will be a doctor one day!”
I needed to keep believing in my dream.
The things I used to do to keep the dream alive seemed a bit strange at the time, but I needed to keep believing in my dream.
I started hanging around medical students and took in their life like it was mine. I envisioned myself in the lecture halls. I went into the university of my choice and walked the passages and imagined myself there.
Sometimes you have to look silly just to keep that fire burning!
The letter came: "We are pleased to inform you of your acceptance into our university."
Imagine, the first person in my family and first person in my school. I made it in.
My dream came true!
Never give up.
So my encouragement to you is:
- Don't stop fighting
- Never give up
- Dreams do come true
Keep the fire going, blaze it up. Your turn is coming!
