Today is International Women’s Day, and it’s an incredible day where we can celebrate women’s achievements and the massive change we’ve had over the last few years to have a more equal society.

It all started because multiple courageous women decided to take a stand for what they believed in. The stand is that women deserve to be equal to men. We deserve to receive equal pay, we deserve to have the right to vote, and we deserve to have the right to do anything men can do.

We have come a long way in society.

Even though we have come a long way in society, the truth is there is still some gender stereotypes that linger around.

I watched this one video on YouTube recently which was really eye-opening. It actually made me realise that even my own mind was slightly skewed.

If you are like me and most of the people on that video who struggled to solve that riddle, maybe this shed a light on your way of thinking?

You might not be actively enforcing these gender stereotypes, but sometimes these subtle mindsets and biases can affect our actions and how we treat different genders.

Take a stance against gender stereotyping.

It took awhile for us to get to the place where we are right now in society, and yet there is still a further distance we need to travel.

We have to actively take a stance against gender stereotyping in our schools, in our workplaces, and in our social groups, which can often even be disguised in the form of a joke.

We should make an effort to normalise equality in our personal communities, and eliminate gender stereotypes.

Have a think: What can you do to continue promoting equality today?
